Here we have tips on using the Surface Carver System we have also added the most important parts of the carving process.

TIP #1
When applying the alcohol and paint process be sure to coat all carved areas, leaving even the smallest area unprotected can lead to mold growth.
TIP #2
FIRST AID: If your pumpkin or your carving becomes nicked or slightly damaged where pumpkin flesh is exposed use the Alcohol & Paint Process to repair it. This should be done as soon as possible.
TIP #3
Don’t get in a hurry. Taking just a little extra time creates a better looking carving. Pick an easy pattern the first time to get acquainted with the tools.
TIP #4
On fresh pumpkins the stem's cut end will need to be dry before surface carving.
TIP #5
When painting the edge of the carving next to the skin, paint about a 6 inch section at a time, it’s easier to wipe any extra paint from the skin while its still wet with a damp paper towel.
TIP #6
Be sure and look close at the pattern design when entering the blade, use the guide mark that places the blade in the area you wish to carve out.
TIP #7
As you use the tools, 2 hands make it much easier to control and hold against the skin of the pumpkin as you carve. Placing the pumpkin in your lap helps make this possible.
TIP #8
When carving out large open areas with the U blade tool make sure it rides flat on the skin of the pumpkin on one side. This makes the uniform depth smoother.
TIP #9
The V blade tool leaves a beveled edge as it carves. When using the U blade carve out at the bottom of this beveled edge, it will give your carving a more 3 dimensional look.
TIP #10
If the U blade leaves any ripples in the open areas rub them briskly with a paper towel, this will smooth them out.
TIP #11
If adding a feature to a pattern already carved always carve away from the existing area. You may chip the skin carving into it.
TIP #12
Small holes can be carved in by pushing the V blade into the pumpkin then spinning it in a circle around the blade.
