Finally to protect, seal and allow your pumpkin carving to heal is the Alcohol & Paint Process. The following very important steps ensure a long lasting Surface Carved pumpkin. Its amazing to watch your pumpkin slowly grow a healing skin all through the Surface Carving allowing it to last for months!
  • Freshly carved pumpkins are usually too wet to paint. Protect it as it dries by using the brush to coat the entire carving with household rubbing alcohol (use only 70% Isopropyl Alcohol and follow all label warnings). Be sure all carved areas are coated.
  • Wait about 24 hours then apply another coat of household rubbing alcohol and blot dry with a clean paper towel before painting.
  • The paint is thick, this is helpful when painting early season pumpkins that may be very moist. One or two drops of water may be added if you prefer thinner paint.
  • Be sure to stir the paint thoroughly.
  • Apply a thin coat of the paint, be sure to paint all carved areas including the side edges to properly seal the carving. For best results add another coat of paint after the first is dry.
  • The paint dries quickly on the skin, wipe off frequently as you paint the edges with a damp paper towel.
  • If you run out of paint you can use any acrylic Glow-in-the-Dark paint available at most craft stores and some retail stores.
